Who we are
carvscar is run by Nexus Versa Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16309465), registered office Silverstream House, 45 Fitzroy Street, London W1T 6EB. We are the controller of the personal information described here.
Questions or requests: info@nexusversa.com.
What we use, and why
Your registration number
When you enter a reg, it is sent to our server (Google Cloud, London) and on to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency's MOT History service, which returns the car's make, model, fuel, engine size, first registration date, MOT dates and the mileage recorded at each MOT. We use this only to show you the car and work out its costs. We keep a lookup for up to 24 hours so repeat lookups are quick, then it is discarded. It is not linked to you.
What you type in
Your finance, insurance, mileage, the car's value, the cars you're comparing, and any "About you" details (age, the first part of your postcode, no-claims years and similar) are stored on your device only: in the app, or in your browser's storage on the website. We do not receive them, except for the anonymous comparison summary described below. Deleting the app, or clearing this site's data in your browser, removes them.
Public comparison pages
When you compare the car you have with a car you want, and you've entered what your car is worth, we publish an anonymous summary as a page on carvscar.app/compare, so other drivers can see which car came out cheaper. It contains only the make, model, year and fuel of each car, how each is paid for, the figures used (payments, price, deposit, term, fuel economy, insurance, miles a year, all rounded) and the result. It never contains your registration, MOT history, colour, "About you" details, location or anything else that identifies you or the car, and we don't store your IP address with it. Summaries that can't be named as a real make and model are not published. If you think a page should come down, email us and we'll remove it.
Your Garage
Cars you save to your Garage are stored on your device only. There are no accounts yet. If we add accounts, we will update this policy first and you will choose whether to use one.
"Help build fair averages"
This switch is off unless you turn it on. The feature is not live yet, and while it isn't, nothing is sent even if the switch is on. When it goes live, only banded figures (age band, postcode area, no-claims band, the kind of car and what it costs) would be shared, never your name, reg or full postcode, and we will update this policy before that happens.
Adverts (iPhone and Android apps only)
The apps may show one advert on results once the free comparisons are used. Ads are provided by Google AdMob. The first time an ad is due you'll see a consent message, and on iPhone, Apple's request to allow tracking. If you agree, Google may use your device's advertising identifier, IP address and similar information to choose and measure ads; if you don't, you'll see less personal ads and nothing about your results changes. You can change your choice at any time from "Privacy choices" on the ad. Google's use of this information is described in Google's policy. The website shows no adverts.
Premium
When Premium is available, it will be bought through the App Store or Google Play. They handle payment; we never see your card details.
Running the website and server
Like any website, our hosting (Google Firebase) records technical details such as IP address, browser type and the time of each request, to keep the service secure and working. These logs are kept for a limited period by Google on our behalf.
Our legal reasons
- Legitimate interests: looking up the car you ask about, publishing anonymous comparison pages, keeping the service secure.
- Consent: personalised advertising, and sharing banded figures for averages if that is ever switched on. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Who else is involved
- The DVSA, which receives the registration number you enter.
- Google (Firebase and Google Cloud for hosting and our server; AdMob for adverts in the apps).
We don't sell or rent your information. Google may process information outside the UK under recognised safeguards.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent. Most of what you enter never leaves your device, so you can delete it yourself at any time. Email info@nexusversa.com for anything else. If you're unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Age
carvscar is meant for drivers and is not aimed at children under 13.
Changes
If we change how we use information, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
